Welcome to OSTEPERLER®. This is a Norwegian blog dedicated to fine and artisanal cheeses, with a special focus on raw-milk cheese. The name translates to “cheese pearls” in English, reflecting the author’s passion for exceptional and unique cheeses. It is my aim to share detailed insights on cheese culture, production, tasting notes, and pairings. Not every raw milk cheese is represented, I am pretty selective and I don’t write about a cheese i have not tasted myself. So if you are on the look out for something special, tasty, new, you’ve come to the right place. These cheese gems – osteperler – made by only one farm, up in the mountains, or on the plains. But not necessarily. If you want to start on a cheese journey, this is a good place!

This blog is primarily about European cheese, simply because most raw milk cheese is European. But there are good cheeses made with raw milk other places as well, and they are included if I come across them and have a chance to taste.

If there is something you do not understand or you think is weird, a cheese you think deserves a listing or simply something cheese you are bursting to communicate; please join in the conversation.

I have nothing against pasteurized cheese and eat it quite often, but it’s just that I prefer cheese from raw milk.

Political? Not really, but I might air some views every now and then. Mostly cheese related, of course.

But as it is; it happens that raw milk cheeses switch to being termised or pasteurised. It happens a cheese disappears from the market. Could be multiple reasons for that.
