We leave Oslo on Sunday 15th February at 14.00 with Emirates to Dubai. It takes seven hours. Then there will be four hours in Dubai in the middle of the night 🥺, so there is plenty of time to find the exit for the next flight. From Dubai to Cape Town it takes just under ten hours and we land at 11.40 where Pernille is waiting to greet us. Back the same way on February 26 at 18:25 from Cape Town, giving us plenty of time for a relaxed morning, a final wine tasting and lunch before departure. We fly all night, nine and a half hours to Dubai, an hour and thirty minutes transit before the flight to Oslo, where we land on Friday 27 February at 12.10 Large aircrafts, Airbus A350 to and from Oslo and Boeing 777 between Dubai and Cape Town. At least that’s what the airline states. The price is ZAR 87,900 per person in a shared double room. If you want a single room, the price will be ZAR 101,900.
➡If you want to travel from somewhere outside of Norway, we deduct the airfare from the price mentioned above, but you will have to make your own travel arrangements. DO make sure you are in Cape Town 16th February at 11.40 by latest. If you choose to arrive early, Pernille at Nonophela Travel can help out arranging accomodation.
Since the tour is arranged by Nonophela Travel in Cape Town, the prices are in ZAR. The trip is paid to Nonophela Travel. Due to the fact that the trip is organized by Nonophela Travel, it is not covered by the Norwegian Travel Guarantee Fund. First Cape Town and then slightly inland
This time we will explore the west coast of South Africa northwest of Cape Town. Perhaps not as well known as the areas around Cape Town, but incredibly beautiful with delicious food and wines, although many of them are not so well known. That is, from this area come some of South Africa’s best wines. Some of the well-known winemakers, such as Sadie Family Wines and Alheit for example, source grapes from these areas in the north, transport the grapes home to their cellar and make the wines there.

The first stop, however, will be Cape Town where we will stay for three days in beautiful and trendy Sea Point. The Mother City is incredibly beautiful and vibrant. Among other things, there will be a trip to Noordhoek, lunch at Tania’s at ATE – an incredible dining experience, a guided tour of Bo Kaap followed by Cape Malay lunch and not least we will eat at the ultra-hip Urban Playground in the district of Maitland. There will be more these days, those who want can go to Robben Island, if you have not been there before, then you should take the trip. Table Mountain. Free time to stroll around the V&A Waterfront, perhaps stop by the art silo, the aquarium, visit the Aafricaa shop, or simply just stroll around and take in the atmosphere. There is something liberating about South Africa. You’ll feel it as soon as you step out of the airport. Sea Point is an incredibly trendy area that is worth exploring in itself, and since the accommodation is quite fancy in large rooms with their own kitchen, maybe you want to visit some of the deli that can be found here and cook a little on your own? Here are at least three that are worth exploring. Kleinsky’s delicatessen, Lello’s Deli or Arthur’s Mini Super, Seapoint – for the latter, the name can be deceiving. Otherwise, we might pass by Foodbarn Deli in Noordhoek as well. Then at least I’m going to stop by. But we kick off straight away on the arrival day with a wine tasting at Minimalist wines in their cellar down town Cape Town. Sam Lobson is a fast rising star on the South African wine scene. And more, dinner at Culture Wine Bar’s Grub & Vine.

From Cape Town, the trip goes to Tulbagh, via a Fynbos Tapas Masterclass in Wellington, before ending up at Rijk’s Wine Estate and Hotel for a four-night stay. Tulbagh is the fourth oldest town in South Africa and is located in an area called the Valley of Abundance – a little inland from Cape Town. Both the city and the surrounding area will be explored, including a trip to Bosjes, a stunningly beautiful farm with gardens, restaurants, an architecturally beautiful chapel and much, much more. It is also a short distance to many well-known vineyards where fantastic wines are made. Eat good food, learn about the areas, the history and the present. There is wild nature that can be explored, bring good shoes anyway. As mentioned, introduction to Fynbos, this low-growing growth cannot be avoided in one way or another if you are in South Africa. There will be a wine tasting at Saronsberg, which is also known for its fantastic art collection, as well as lunch at Montpellier. In addition, one of the days we are going to Swartland to taste wine at David and Nadia Wines and Porseleinberg, with lunch in beautiful Riebeek-Kasteel. Later in the week we will stop by Testalonga to taste their wines.
Off towards the west coast
From Tulbagh, we’re heading for Langebaan via !Khwa ttu which is a fantastic cultural center, to meet and learn about and from the San people. They speak a so-called click language, and ! in front of its name means that it starts with a click. The San people were the first inhabitants of southern Africa and are the last living hunter-gatherer people. Today, there are about 130,000 San people spread over six countries in southern Africa. The visit includes lunch.

After the visit to the San people, we get on the bus and drive approximately 15 minutes for a mini-safari lasting two and a half to three hours. No Big Five, but giraffe, zebra, ostrich and lots of antelopes I would think. Then it’s off to The Farmhouse Hotel in Langebaan. The town and the hotel are located right on the coast, by the Langebaan lagoon. Then you can cool down with a fresh draught from the Atlantic Ocean and of course swim. The area is called the jewel of the West Coast and is located on the West Coast Foodie Route. It will be a trip to Paternoster for lunch, great little town worth exploring. We will hit off to Testalonga for a wine tasting a well. On the Wednesday the day before the departure, there will be lunch at the somewhat famous Die Strandloper. Be prepared for a lunch of a few hours’ duration with lots of fresh and good seafood. Thursday is the farewell to Langebaan and for that matter South Africa after a good breakfast. We get on the bus, but have plenty of time so we make a last stop for a wine tasting at Groote Post. Lunch included. Then we get on the bus for the last stretch to the airport where we arrive at about 16.00, in due time as the flight leaves at 18.25
The Guides
Guides on the trip will be, as last time, Pernille Stallemo and Christine Lundy (see picture above) specialists in South Africa’s history, politics and social conditions, nature and culture, and for Christine’s part, wine and food. Wine will be an important part of the trip anyway and Christine gets us into good places, as well as we get to talk to the right people, who are the winemakers and owners themselves. The guided tours will be in Norwegian and English, respectively. It is a requirement for such tours that there must be at least one registered South Africa guide at all times. Both Pernille and Christine are registered. Jan Peter Aursnes helps with the guiding if needed. Christine will be with us for 5 days and Pernille for 6 days. Jan Peter for the whole trip.

We are all transported safely around in a suitable bus and stay at good hotels with good breakfasts. Joint lunch and dinner according to the program. Some afternoons/evenings are at your own disposal. The great thing about Nonophela Travel is that you get to experience things and meet people that you are unlikely to get to on your own. Tips
In South Africa, tipping hotel staff and the bus driver is common. Expect 1,000 ZAR (rand) per person as a tip for the bus driver. Tips for hotel staff and at restaurants as you feel like. If you use a taxi, use e.g. Über which is always prepaid. February is the height of summer in South Africa, so think about clothing and protection for your head, as well as high-factor sunscreen (30+). Not uncommon with UV of 12 and above. Bring good shoes.
The flight ticket includes two pieces of checked baggage of up to 23 kilos and hand luggage of up to 7 kilos, per person. Food and drinks on the plane are included. This applies to Emirates from Oslo to cape Town and return. If you have a different route check what applies.
